50 Canvases in 2014: Monochromatic

I didn't think I would have the chance to do a canvas this week, since I was hosting my friend Nancy, whom I have known since the third grade.  As it turned out, however, Nancy really wanted to sit in a comfy chair and veg as much as humanly possible, so we traded stories, marveled at each other's drama, and watched a lot of movies.  Like, I don't even want to tell you how many.  I think the people at the video store thought we were going into an underground bunker for a month.

While the movies played, at any rate, I painted an olive oil bottle (it's on wonderstrange, if you're curious), and I caught up a little on the wonderstrange 50 Canvases Challenge by completing the monochromatic canvas challenge that I missed a few weeks back.

While I was painting this, Nancy would periodically pause the movie and come over to tell me how brilliant it looked.  I have no illusions that I created a Monet or anything, but honestly, it is pretty darn nice to have someone come up and act like you're painting the Sistine Chapel every 30-40 minutes.  I highly recommend it and would consider sharing Nancy with you, except for the fact that I rarely get to see her myself.

  7. I keep seeing monochromatic paintings everywhere and I really want to try it out myself (very difficult for me, as I'm addicted to colour). But I really love the results you got, on this painting as well as on the robot last week. And your diswashing liquid bottle looks awesome. Great idea! Certainly different from the ugly plastic bottles.

  12. This looks as if it would have been very difficult to do, but you have really succeeded here, what a character your green lady is. I enjoyed seeing the process steps too.

  13. Your little girls is unusual and interesting, with her green colouring and she looks a real character. It's a great painting, very individual, and the pearls are beautifully done as well.

    1. Thank you so much! I love horror films, but Nancy is not a fan of being scared (I do remember watching a terrible horror movie with her at a slumber party in 7th grade, though). We watched a lot of Oscar-nominated films this time. :D

  15. Whoa, that is astoundingly creepy cool! And those flowers, just the perfect accessory! (Would it be rude to remind you in front of all of these people how nervous you were to join PPF?) Also, go go yellow-green! And those dark hair shadows are so great - I can never do that dangit. :D
