I know a lot of people who struggled with depression in 2014, so here's a figure emerging from the mist. She's not completely in focus, but she'll get there!
I LOVE her! Her expression is wonderful. What I find most striking, technically, is the movement and texture of her hair. The way her hair falls over her shoulder suggests to me movement in her head, as though she were actively leaning forward through the gray and orange pattern. The lighting around her face and the highlights in her hair are a great contrast to the dullness of the world from which she is emerging. Fantastic!
You're off to a strong start already! She looks fabulous, Ann. I really love your colour choices here and I love how she's escaping the canvas and coming out of it toward the viewer. And her hair is seriously awesome.
Thank you so much! I want to start making stronger color choices on the whole in my painting. I also want to get comfortable not blending every little thing, and having ease in my strokes.
I'm already amazed by the difference between last year and this year. I'm working much faster and more confidently!
Wonderful! I love how part of the background texture is part of her garment and the value changes appear as if she is coming through a door into the light along with the highlights on her hair!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Jason! I am thrilled that the lighting effects I tried to achieve succeeded in this way! I really appreciate your whole analysis!
DeleteWonderful choices you have made with color and textures. Certainly a spirit lifter!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Susan! This has tons of extra texture because I painted over a canvas from last year's challenge. I am finding I love texture!
DeleteGreat emotional piece.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! Love her expression. There is sadness, but strength as well. Determination.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sheila! I so appreciate this comment!
