50 Canvases in 2014: Song Lyric Prompt

Last weekend, I saw Rhett Miller perform at Radio Radio, and he was super amazing and energetic and adorable, on top of which, he put his arm around me, which shows him to be a man of taste and discernment.  Or a man who was taking a picture with me.  WHATEVER.

Rhett.  You can also see my hair, but the rest of me didn't look so hot.  Hi hair!

Anyway, the whole experience got me extra fired up to paint a canvas for last week's wonderstrange 50 Canvases in 2014 challenge, which was to paint something inspired by a song lyric.  Of all Rhett's many brilliant lines, I chose these:

Happy.  Baby, I'm so happy.  Baby, I'm so.  I got my imaginary friends.
And if you don't love me, would you please pretend?

Here's a parade of progress pics for the mixed media canvas those lyrics inspired:

By the way, those dominoes-style numbers above her head?  They are 4 and 5 (which make 9) and 1 and 6 (which make 7).  Rhett is the lead singer of the Old 97s.  GET IT?  Yes.  Ahem.

Good night.

    1. Hahaha. Honestly, you don't have to know about Rhett to appreciate any of his features. He's whip smart, too!

  8. Fantastic! Wonderful face and I must chime in and agree the hair is super fab. The eyes are really great too with that red liner you do.

Isn't it funny how much different eyelashes and eyebrows make?! Also, I didn't think she was sad. Or maybe I just don't want anyone to be sad omg. She seems both knowing and reflective, to me.

I don't know this Rhett fellow either but he is certainly easy on the eyes. :D

    1. Isn't he?! Yes, watching him in concert is not difficult in the least. Never once have I thought, "OW MY EYES!" My husband is very understanding about it.

And yes - lashes and brows are both oddly impactful (if I may use a corporate word and cause my own left ear to start bleeding).

For you, I will say that yes, she's just reflective. But really she's sad. Just pretend you don't notice! ;)

  13. Oooooh! Oooh, girl, you are awesome! I love your mixed media. And your paintings are terrific the way they come to life. I see you are a bread maker. Me too! Hooray for carbs, right? You have a wicked sense of humor. Nearly snorted coffee out my nose with your guy with eyeballs in hand! Ha! Love that Cindy for introducing us!

    1. YOU MAKE BREAD?! OMG, where have you been all my life?! I don't know anyone else who makes bread. Literally. No one. (Okay, okay, I know one person who makes quickbreads, but that's not what we're talking about, right? Right.)

Let's be wicked carby friends, please!

    2. Please to excuse, Miss Ann-Dee, you do know at least one person who makes bread, dammit. >:3

    3. Sarah, do you make bread?! Why have we never talked about making bread???

(If you say we have, I will cry. I'm so sorry if we have and I forgot!)

    4. I do - I think I made my first loaf 20 years ago after the Frugal Gourmet assured me that I totally could. I just made a crapload of pizza dough, which is basically bread since it rises twice prebaking, right? ;)

I don't think we've ever talked about it, although you name it I've probably made it. Bread, pasta, souffle.. lol

    5. I hope you don't mind if I sneak into this conversation. My mom taught me how to make make bread when I was 18, and I still make it but not as often. Usually I make sweet rolls during the holidays! So happy to meet other breads makers! Btw, I still roll ,
My dough by hand nothing is done Ina machine.

    6. Oh Debbie! How exciting to meet another bread maker! I love that you learned from your mom, too - and I double love that you make sweet rolls! YUM. I made cinnamon rolls once, but I've never done full-on sticky buns, which are perpetually calling my name. One of these delicious days!

I roll, knead, and punch with my hands, too. For me, it's therapy!
