Day 19: 29 Faces

Here is a comic-style piece I did on the theme "what happens when I sit down to make art."  What is depicted here happens to me routinely - to wit, I make three ATCs for a swap and then struggle to come up with an idea for a 4th card so that the host can keep one as a gift. The angel on my shoulder says I MUST make a host card, but there is also the possibility that I could just send extra postage.

99 times out of 100, the angel wins, and I stay up all night and make the 4th card.

Sorry about the soft, mushy scan.  :/

Day 16-18: 29 Faces

This week, the wonderstrange 50 Canvases challenge is to FINGERPAINT!  How fun is that?!

I laid down one initial coat of Napithol Crimson on the background with a brush.  Everything else was done with my fingers.

This is an 8x10 canvas, and since I had to work extra hard (with my fingers!), I am counting all three faces here.

Day 15: 29 Faces

Sometimes, people are mean and ask me to draw them animals.  Okay, I suppose such a request is not intended to be mean, but it's a little mean regardless, because the thing I really like to draw is people.

Anyway, from now on, the animal-requesters get goats.  Goats are pretty fun to draw.

Day 14: 29 Faces

I experimented a little on this one.  I don't think the experiment was particularly successful, but hey.  We don't know if we don't try, right?

This is "I Only Have Eyes for You."

Day 13: 29 Faces

This is an ATC I painted as a host gift.  I had a whole elaborate background, but I had to paint over it after the quinacridone magenta smeared.  (Dammit.)

There is a certain sobriety to it now that I hope the recipient will find appealing, or at least not intolerable.  :)

Day 7 - Day 12: 29 Faces

I had to do cards for a Pick-a-Theme ATC swap, so I think I'm caught up now!  For 10 seconds.  Until I'm not anymore.

These are all painted with acrylics, which I love and adore until death do us part.

Day 6: 29 Faces

For this project, I was doing double duty, because this is my 6th face for the 29 Faces challenge, but it also fulfills the 50 Canvases in 2014 challenge on wonderstrange, where the challenge for this week was to paint on a black canvas.

I skipped gesso, mixed up a flesh tone, and painted it directly onto the black.

My concept for the painting was a woman who has the same issue I do: I have an angel on my shoulder, but I have no corresponding devil, dammit!  Put another way, show me a rule, and I want to follow it.  It's one of my least favorite things about myself.

Day 4: 29 Faces

As I am practicing drawing faces at different angles, I am also trying to meet all of my swap obligations.  This is a whimsical Marie Antoinette.

Day 3: 29 Faces

I sketched this Henry VIII while sitting in the lobby today during my son's orthodontist appointment.

Day 2: 29 Faces

For Day 2, I did an ATC for a woman who wanted a French soldier from WWI.

I chose this photo reference because of the angle of the face, which is not quite 3/4 and not quite straight on.

Day 1: 29 Faces

I seem to be doing another month-long challenge!  The last one was so good for me that I figure it's folly to resist!

The title of this ATC is "Mana Screwed."  I made it in honor of the Magic tournament I'll be playing in all day tomorrow.

It's my goal during this challenge to practice faces (and heads) from all kinds of different angles.
